Clermont's rugby passion

Our city’s rugby passion

Clermont-Ferrand is famous for many reasons, one of them is the Rugby team, the « ASM Clermont-Ferrand », at first called "AS Montferrand", which represents a famous neighbourhood in Clermont-Ferrand. It was created in 1911 by Marcel Michelin, the CEO of Clermont's biggest company "Michelin"...
But the team would be nothing without the amazing stadium in which we love to go and watch them play!

The Marcel Michel Stadium is a rugby stadium located in our city, Clermont-Ferrand. It was inaugurated in 1911 and it has been used by the rugby team « ASM Clermont-Auvergne » ever since. The stadium has a capacity  of 18,030 people, so it can welcome a lot of people and many teams from  Europe and the entire world came to play in it.
Indeed, the rugby team is very popular in Clermont-Ferrand and in the entire  Auvergne region. Their supporters are called « the Yellow Army » and almost every inhabitant of Clermont-Ferrand is a supporter of the team: it brings an amazing spirit in times of games!
For exemple, everytime ASM plays an important game, the city puts a big screen in Clermont's biggest square: Jaude.
Everytime, there are thousands of people coming to watch the game, and it is amazing to be inside such a cheerful crowd (except when they score and people throw beer at you...) :)
This team is one of the best French rugby teams, actually the best and has even won the national championship in 2010. This team is also linked to Europe: they are playing in European championships, the European Cup and the H Cup with many others teams in which they have good results but never won, so it is currently  the team’s priority to try to actually win these championships for once.
We can wish them to break a leg for next season!
