IR at a student level

 IR at a student level

The entry of our campus

Nowadays for a university to be attractive towards students it must offer an international programme. It provides better opportunities for students in the future.

Our university is currently in partnership with 266 universities worldwide, and more than half of them are situated in E.U. - our bachelor offers the opportunity in 35 European universities -. Each year more than 1000 students took this offer. That is to say we represent almost 5% of the international departures from France.
We have degrees where it's a requirement to go abroad for at least 6 months during your B.A. They're essential for every area of work. If a person has an international degree they have a better chance of getting a good job because the number of companies looking for these types of employees is increasing every day.

We have to be aware of what's happening overseas and in E.U!!

      European Programme>> European Programme

Thanks to its international programme, UBP has attracted many foreign students of all different nationalities to come and study in France. Indeed, 15% of our university's students are foreigners!
Our university offers a special course for foreign students called " UE libre" where they can learn more about The Auvergne Region. For example, they are going to learn more about the volcanos and the Auvergne specifics' brands.

Cathedral of Clermont-Ferrand

Hello everyone,

My name is Shane and along with my partner Vincent, we are going to introduce you to a cathedral in Clermont-Ferrand, called “Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption de Clermont”. Vincent and I are both “newbies” here in Clermont-Ferrand but we both agree that this Cathedral caught our attention when we came here.

We wanted to introduce this cathedral in this project because it is one of the most representative buildings of Clermont-Ferrand. It’s also well-known by the Catholic community as one of the steps of the Saint-Jacques of Compostela pilgrimage. As this pilgrimage is very famous throughout Europe, this cathedral can be seen as an important European cultural reference

Well first of all, it is huge and it also stands out amongst the buildings around it because of its height. Moreover the Cathedral was built entirely in black lava stone and its two towers are 108 meters high which makes the whole structure rather impressive.

The cathedral has been knocked down and rebuilt several times since the 5th Century, but the structure as we know it today, was designed in 1248 by an architect named Jean Deschamps, and then went through a lot of different renovations and modifications that led us to our current cathedral.

It’s a roman-gothic cathedral and remains as a French national monument. Once you enter, brace yourself because the inside is as captivating as the outside. It’s better to come when the sun is still out, because there are magnificent stain glasses in different colors almost everywhere including the ceiling. As you can imagine, the colors are reflected on the floor as if it was painted.

There are also murals that are as captivating as the stain glass windows. We could go on forever describing this Cathedral but we will only mention a few to not spoil the surprise when you come here yourselves. You can go up 250 stairs in order to reach the top. It is tiring however; your effort will be rewarded with a breath-taking view of Clermont-Ferrand. As a plus, you won’t feel cold anymore in this weather after going up all those steps.

We hope you enjoyed this little post on the Cathedral here at Clermont-Ferrand and that you have also felt its beauty as we did.

Vincent and Shane

OUR MEP

First of all, what does MEP stands for???

MEP: Member of the European parliament.
Well, it's a person who has been elected to serve as a representative in the European parliament. In an other way, they are elected to represent their region at the European parliament. They usually meet every month in Strasbourg for several days. Moreover they can be part of an international delegation.

Indeed, our region has five MEP. Two of them are representing “Front National” (Right Wing Party), two others are Republicans, and the last one is Socialist.

Now let's focus on the one we chose to introduce.

Brice Hortefeux is a conservative French politician. He was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine (Paris) and was raised in Auvergne which is also our region. He has a degree in private law and a Master's degree in public law (from the Paris Institute of Political Studies).

Today, he is MEP, and also member of the committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs at the European Parliament. What's more is that he is part of the delegation for relations with Maghreb countries and the Arab Maghreb Union. Eventually he is member of the delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean.

He is regional councilor of Auvergne since 1992, after being reelected                                                  multiple times.

After President Sarkozy was elected in 2007, Hortefeux became minister of Immigration, Integration, National Identity and Development Solidarity. We can highlight the fact he is one of the most loyal political allies, and personal friend of our former president, Nicolas Sarkozy. To show their close relationship, Hortefeux is the godfather of one of his son.

Recently, Brice Hortefeux presented to the European parliament a program aiming to financially help small towns around Clermont-Ferrand. He collected 220 millions euros for the region and its towns in order to create more, they will for instance be able to develop offices for associations, multi-purpose halls, invest in sports and cultural equipments, …etc. Besides It is clearly said that no private firms will be helped. The goal of the project is to improve the quality of life and to promote the exercise of citizenship in an urban environment.

Michelin, le géant clermontois !

« A Better Way Forward »

Michelin is a French tire manufacturer which is based in the city where we’re studying, Clermont-Ferrand. It is considered as one of the three largest tire manufacturers in the world along with Bridgestone in Japan and Goodyear in the US.
The company is well-known worldwide mostly thanks to its mascot, Bibendum, also known as the Michelin Man. This character is followed by the following slogan, « A better way forward ».

Created back in 1889, when the Michelin brothers, André and Édouard, began the development of modern transport solutions.

But the firm isn’t just a tire manufacturer. Actually, Michelin is also notable for its travel guide, its roadmaps but also its Michelin stars which marks the restaurants on their cooking.

Michelin is also famous for some of its inventions such as the removable tire and the pneurail, which is used by the trains.

In Clermont, we have a well-known rugby team with a lot of good players! The stadium where they’re playing is also owned by Michelin.

Now, here’s a few of their most significant inventions:

1899: The « Jamais Contente » is the very first car to reach 62 miles. It’s equipped with Michelin tires.

1895: The Michelin brothers built their own car called « L’éclair » and are using it for the Paris-Bordeaux race in order to
prove the tire efficiency. The car name is referring to the very
instable trajectory of the car. It was so out of control that none of the Michelin employees volunteered to drive it. The Michelin brother ended up driving it themselves!!

No, it’s not a BMX slope! It’s a test track for the
Michelin tires!

 Michelin in Europe…

Michelin is very present worldwide like in the US or in Asia, but the company occupies an important place in Europe. In fact, Michelin owns several factories in 10 different European countries: France, the UK, Spain, Italy, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Serbia, Romania and Russia.
This massive industry is hiring 38 794 employees!
Michelin was officially considered as one of the strongest company in Europe.

Michelin is settled in the United Kingdom for more than 100 years, and is the first producer of tires of the country. The unexpected decision in June of British voters to leave the European Union has had an important impact on the company. Actually, the firm has raised prices in Britain to tread on the creation of a black market in tires in response to a falling pound following the Brexit vote.

In the future, the logistic network of Michelin in Italy will be transformed. The stores in Turin and Rome will be modernized to serve the whole country. Also, the factory in Dundee (UK) will benefit from 69 million of euros of investment, in order to develop it towards an international production.
The European Union, with its 500 million of inhabitants, is the 1st point of sale (43%).

Clermont's rugby passion

Our city’s rugby passion

Clermont-Ferrand is famous for many reasons, one of them is the Rugby team, the « ASM Clermont-Ferrand », at first called "AS Montferrand", which represents a famous neighbourhood in Clermont-Ferrand. It was created in 1911 by Marcel Michelin, the CEO of Clermont's biggest company "Michelin"...
But the team would be nothing without the amazing stadium in which we love to go and watch them play!

The Marcel Michel Stadium is a rugby stadium located in our city, Clermont-Ferrand. It was inaugurated in 1911 and it has been used by the rugby team « ASM Clermont-Auvergne » ever since. The stadium has a capacity  of 18,030 people, so it can welcome a lot of people and many teams from  Europe and the entire world came to play in it.
Indeed, the rugby team is very popular in Clermont-Ferrand and in the entire  Auvergne region. Their supporters are called « the Yellow Army » and almost every inhabitant of Clermont-Ferrand is a supporter of the team: it brings an amazing spirit in times of games!
For exemple, everytime ASM plays an important game, the city puts a big screen in Clermont's biggest square: Jaude.
Everytime, there are thousands of people coming to watch the game, and it is amazing to be inside such a cheerful crowd (except when they score and people throw beer at you...) :)
This team is one of the best French rugby teams, actually the best and has even won the national championship in 2010. This team is also linked to Europe: they are playing in European championships, the European Cup and the H Cup with many others teams in which they have good results but never won, so it is currently  the team’s priority to try to actually win these championships for once.
We can wish them to break a leg for next season!
